How to
The tasks people come here for, in the order they usually happen: make a report, find it, change the words, get it approved. What the app is and why it works the way it does is on About.
Make a fund report
Generate › Fund report
- Pick the fund and the format, Word or PDF.
Every report is kept in both; the format only decides which file you get first.
- Set the reporting period.
It opens on the last complete month. The dates go on the cover and bound what the research step is allowed to look at.
- Leave Draft market reactions and commentary with AI ticked if you want the prose written.
Untick it for a figures-only report. If the box says it is unavailable, no API key is set on this server and ticking it adds a notice to the report rather than text.
- Open More options if the defaults are wrong for this report.
Written for is the reader the prose is pitched at. Template is the running order and branding. Drafting instructions are the standing rules the model writes under; you can edit them for this one report.
- Open Sources to narrow which sites the research may search, or to attach supporting documents.
Unticking a site takes it away for this report; nothing on the form can add a site the list does not already allow. Anything in an attached document is marked as supplied with the request and has to be signed off before publication.
- Under Holdings, choose which securities the attribution table names, where the fund has that data.
- Press Generate.
The report is built in the background and the file downloads when it is ready. It is in Past reports whether or not you keep the download.
Research a subject
Generate › Research a subject
For a manager, a competitor or a company the app holds no figures for. Name the subject, put what you already know under What you already know, and add anything specific the note has to cover. The research step reads recent news and market reaction within the period you set, and writes the note from what it finds. The note carries no tables and says so, and what you typed appears under its own heading as your words.
Find a report
Reports › Past reports
- Type part of the title in the search box, or open More filters for fund, type, dates and status.
- Click anywhere on a row to open it.
The report page shows the research run, the instructions it was written under, the documents it was given and its sources. None of that is in the document itself.
- Use View, Word or PDF on the row to get the document without opening the page.
Change the words
Any report › Edit the text
- Press Edit the text on the report, in Past reports or in the review queue.
A report that has never been reviewed joins the review flow on the way, so there is a record of who changed what.
- Change the headings and text of the commentary sections. Add, reorder and remove them.
Only the prose is editable. The tables come from the data and cannot be changed here, which is what makes a figure in a published report trustworthy.
- Say why you changed it, if it is not obvious, and Save as a new version.
Nothing is edited in place. Every save is a version, and the earlier ones stay readable under the report's Versions.
Rewriting a sentence the model drafted relabels it as AI-edited on its own. Rewriting it entirely makes it yours, with no tag.
Get it approved and published
Reports › Edit & review
The queue lists what is waiting on you first. Each report's page says where it has got to and shows one button for the next step, greyed out with the reasons if it cannot be pressed yet.
| Where it is | What happens next |
|---|---|
| Draft | Edit it, then Send for review. |
| In review | A reviewer approves it or sends it back with a note. |
| Approved | Publish it, or take the approval back to change something. |
| Published | Fixed. A change means a new version, which starts the loop again. |
Approval is refused while any model-written passage has no source behind it, and while any open-web or supplied source is unsigned. Sign a source off from the Sources panel on the report. The person who last edited a report cannot be the one who approves it.
Until sign-in exists, the Acting as chip in the top bar says who you are for the audit trail. Switch it before you approve on someone's behalf.
Read the markings
| In the document | Means |
|---|---|
| No tag | Written by a person. |
AI-DRAFTED | Written by the model and not changed since. |
AI-EDITED | Drafted by the model, then changed by a person. |
[4] | Rests on entry 4 in the report's sources. |
| A notice box | Something the reader should know about how the report was made: figures that were typed in, a period the data cannot vary by, research that found nothing. |
Every report closes with a line on how it was made and who checked it. Sources are kept with the report rather than printed in it.
Templates
Templates
A template is the running order of a report and its branding: fonts, colours, a logo. Build one from the blocks, or upload a Word document and let the app read its structure. Make default sets which one the generate forms open on. A template that is in use can be retired but not deleted.
Funds, readers and guides
Admin
| Tab | What it is for |
|---|---|
| Funds | Add a fund by hand: name, type, benchmark, holdings to research, and its figures pasted as lines of text. It appears on the generate form at once. |
| Audiences | Reader profiles. Who the report is written for, and how that changes the register. |
| Prompt guides | Standing drafting instructions, chosen per report from the generate form. |
| Diagnostics, System | What is configured on this server and whether each piece is working. Settings that could weaken a control are read-only here. |
| Jobs, Mail, Audit log | What has run, what was sent, and who did what. |
